With surgical team partners the Caborca team should feel very proud as a ground breaking mission. The surgical team leader, Dr. Scott M. considered his mission a success even though the surgeries were more mature than the ones typically encountered in the US. The ODs had more difficult refractions in the first few days because of having pre-screened patients, resulting in more specials. The ODs and MDs also had the additional duty of doing pre-op examinations. See report below. |

We were very lucky on the Hermosillo mission to have 2 opticians and 3 for the last two days. We rarely had a back up of patients in the optical area. We seemed to have good patient flow in spite of the small physical environment. I think that our all of our Mexican sponsors did a very good job and I hope we can continue the relationship with all of them. I thank all VOSH members and friends who did not go on a mission this year for the spectacular support and help. We need doctors. It is very pleasant (not too hot or too cold and we have terrific hosts. Miquel Aleman is a farming community about 30 miles from Hermosillo, Sonora. We will be staying in beautiful Kino Bay. We will convoy south from Tucson & Phoenix on the 25th. It is an easy day trip. |

We will be "hospital" based but also most probably traveling out to villages doing exams and screenings. Our final # was 2,772 patients, which was a very good #-Last five years were 2,428, 2,674, 2,853, 3,259 & 2,772, so we were right on target & again I'd like to acknowledge & thank Joyce for all of her work with the buses because that's such an important part now of the mission's success. |
