Welcome to the world of VOSH. Would you like to travel to remote places in Central America, India, Africa, or somewhere on the Amazon River? VOSH enjoys helping people in locations where most tourists never venture. VOSH is an acronym for Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity and is comprised of optometrists and others interested people who work to provide eye care for people in the underdeveloped countries of the world.
Glasses are collected from a variety of sources. The major sources are Lions Clubs and churches. Donated glasses are cleaned, neutralized and categorized for use on VOSH missions. The glasses are either taken by team members as extra baggage or shipped to the mission site before hand. VOSH has helped to establish permanent clinics in Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala & Mexico. Permanent clinics provide a base location from which missions can be conducted.
VOSH can be an exciting and fulfilling addition to your life. Good vision care in the United States is often taken for granted. Health care benefits and governmental programs provide vision care for most people. In developing countries many are not so fortunate. The only eye care they may ever have will come from a VOSH mission team.
VOSH invites optometrists and others who are interested in vision care to be a part of the world of VOSH.
